Dr. Paul H. Mayo is a professor of medicine at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and an internationally recognized thought leader in critical care ultrasonography and echocardiography. Dr. Mayo runs a ventilator/airway training program for the first-year fellows each July, which provides specific training in all aspects of airway and ventilator management using scenario-based training with a computerized patient simulator.

Dr. Mayo supervises the training of fellows in critical care ultrasonography and offers interested fellows full training in advanced critical care echocardiography, including TEE. As team leader of the ACCP ultrasound working group, Dr. Mayo authored the ACCP/SRLF Competence Statement on critical care ultrasonography and is the editor of a major textbook on the subject. He has been a course leader at numerous multiday courses throughout the United States and is a frequently invited faculty member at the international level. Fellows from the NS/LIJ program regularly serve as faculty at national ACCP courses in recognition of their high skill level. He received the Best Teacher of the Year award in 2012 for his work with the medical house staff at NS/LIJ. Dr. Mayo was chosen to present the Edward Rosenow Master Teacher Honor Lecture at ACCP in 2015.
