Dr. Omofoye is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon at Tidelands Health with a focus on cranial neurosurgery and brain tumors. He graduated with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from UNC-Chapel Hill and obtained an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University in New York. He received his medical degree from the UNC School of Medicine and completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of California Davis Medical Center with an enfolded fellowship at Boston Medical Center. After residency, he completed an additional CAST-approved fellowship in neurosurgical oncology and skull base neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles to specialize in brain tumors.
Dr. Omofoye’s primary clinical interests are the surgical treatment of metastatic and primary brain tumors such as meningiomas, glioblastomas, pituitary tumors, etc. He directs the cranial and brain tumor program at Tidelands Health with cutting-edge technology such as a stereotactic brain biopsy robot, advanced neuronavigation with a state-of-the-art surgical microscope, virtual reality integration, and intraoperative ultrasound. He is proficient in minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques such as endonasal pituitary surgery, brain tumor resection through an eyebrow incision, and tubular retractor systems. In 2021, he performed the first brain biopsy using a cranial robot in the state of South Carolina and only the second on the east coast.
His research interests include clinical trials for brain tumors and engineering applications in neurosurgery and neurosurgical oncology. He has authored 24 peer-reviewed scientific articles, abstracts, and book chapters, and given 28 national and international neurosurgery presentations. He received resident of the year awards for academic excellence in 2017 and 2020, as well as a resident scholarship award from the San Francisco Neurological Society in 2020. He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
