Dr. Natalia Rost is MGH Stroke Neurologist and Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Rost received her M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine cum laude and completed her Internship in Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (2003), and Residency in Neurology (2006) as well as Fellowship in Vascular and Critical Care Neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women's Hospital (2007). Dr. Rost is a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and Director of the MGH Acute Stroke Services. Dr. Rost has devoted her career as clinician-scientist to neuroimaging of acute stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases, the role of genetics in susceptibility to acute cerebral ischemia, and outcome prediction in patients with acute stroke. She has had continuous NIH and foundation support in this area of research throughout her career, including National Stroke Association, Bugher Foundation of the American Heart Association, K23 Career Development Award, and two R01 from the NIH/NINDS. She is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, a co-author of the "Massachusetts General Hospital Handbook of Neurology," and the Medical Editor of the Harvard Medical School's Special Health Report on Stroke.
Dr. Rost's professional career path is continuously inspired by her daily involvement in care of patients with acute stroke. As part of this work, she directs the MGH Comprehensive Stroke Quality Taskforce and serves as Associate Director of the MGH Comprehensive Stroke Center. She served as President of the Boston Board of the American Heart/Stroke Association between 2014-2016. On the national and international level, Dr. Rost serves as Chair of the Science Committee of the American Academy of Neurology, Chair of the Neuroimaging Working Group of the International Stroke Genetics Consortium, and Assistant Editor of the journal STROKE.
