Motohiro Kamei, MD, PhD is a respected vitreoretinal surgeon who has performed vitrectomy in more than 3,000 cases. He has developed several new surgical techniques including drainage of subretinal hemorrhage with tPA and perfluorocarbon liquid and limited macular translocation. His research interests have focused on the pathophysiology of vitreoretinal disorder. He is currently working on revealing pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration, the pathophysiology of retinal vein occlusion and developing artificial vision.
Dr. Kamei has also dedicated much of his time to training aspiring surgeons and to paving the way for continuing excellence in the field of vitreoretinal surgery into the next generation. Dr. Kamei has authored and co-authored over 200 English and Japanese publications in the field of ophthalmology and visual sciences, and has written chapters or edited over 30 books on related topics.
