Monte D. Mills, MD, is the Director of Ophthalmology and Mabel E. Leslie Endowed Chair of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He is also Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Scheie Eye Institute and the University of Pennsylvania Department of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Mills received his medical degree in 1988 from the Baylor College of Medicine, with high honor. After completing a residency in ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Harvard Medical School, he was trained in the Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at the Children's Hospital of Boston. Dr. Mills was a member of the faculty of the University of Wisconsin and director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, WI, prior to joining The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 2000.

Dr. Mills has published articles and book chapters on topics involving pediatric eye and vision disorders, strabismus and eye surgery. He has presented clinical research on many topics in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at national and international meetings, and served as associate editor of the Journal of the Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the major clinical journal in his field, from 1994-2000. Currently, his clinical research interests include pediatric strabismus and strabismus surgery, retinopathy of prematurity, telemedicine, eye manifestations of pediatric disease, pediatric cataracts and pediatric glaucoma.

Dr. Mills sees patients and performs surgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia’s Pediatric Ophthalmology Clinic in Philadelphia, and at CHOP’s Specialty Care & Surgery Center in Bucks County, PA.
