Molly Patricia Newlon DDS, MA

Molly Newlon DDS, MA grew up on the San Francisco Peninsula and has lived in San Francisco for most of her adult life. Being a city girl, San Francisco is her favorite place to spend her work and leisure time. Dr. Newlon received both her bachelor's and Masters's degrees from UCLA. Following her graduate school years, she completed pre-dental courses and proceeded to the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry where she received a DDS degree in 1982. Following dental school, Dr. Newlon completed a General Practice Residency program at the Veteran’s Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, and then became a faculty member at the University of Texas School of Dentistry. After her move back to California, she enjoyed private practice for 5 years before joining UCSF in 1989. She considers it an honor to have been an active member of the UCSF community for 23 years as a faculty member and practicing dentist. Dr. Newlon has mentored many students, and greatly enjoys their friendship and professional association through dental school and for many years beyond.

For over 15 years, Dr. Newlon has also served as Director of Health and Safety at UCSF School of Dentistry. In that capacity, she is very involved in many university committees and national organizations dealing with health and safety issues and infection control. She has spoken at numerous conferences and is considered an expert on the topic of infection control in dentistry. She spends her workweek seeing patients in the Faculty Dental Practice, teaching students in clinical dentistry, and of course, directing health and safety operations. On a personal note, Dr. Newlon enjoys life with her lovely daughter, new son-in-law, wonderful husband, and numerous pets. She is “famous” for her funny dog calendars and Halloween costumes! She has been a long-distance runner for over 30 years and has completed many marathons and half marathons.
