Mohamed Kanj, MD, is the Associate Director of Electrophysiology Laboratories at the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Kanj has special expertise in Left atrial appendageal closure ( Watchman and Amulet). He also specialized in ablation of complex arrhythmia, including atrial fibrillation and endocardial /epicardial ventricular tachycardia. He is board-certified in cardiac pacing and electrophysiology. His office is located on the Main Campus of the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Kanj did his undergraduate studies at the American University of Beirut, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with Distinction. He received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut School of Medicine, where he graduated with Dean's Honor and was enrolled in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He received medical training at the Michigan State University where he served as the Chief Medical Resident, the University of Toledo and the Cleveland Clinic where he was the Chief Electrophysiology Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic.

He has won many awards, including The Rafiq Harriri and The Makassed awards for outstanding achievements, The Smokler’s and The Outstanding Resident teaching awards for exceptional skills in contributing to the teaching of medical students, as well as his fellow residents. During his medical residency training, he won the Outstanding Junior and Senior Resident Awards, and he got the Heart Rhythm Society Fellowship Grant during his cardiac electrophysiology training.

Dr. Kanj is involved in numerous clinical multi-center trials to study medical applications for catheter ablation, pacemakers, and defibrillators. He has authored or co-authored many articles in scientific journals and many chapters in medical books. He continues writing in his areas of interest. Currently, Dr. Kanj holds memberships in the American College of Cardiology, the Heart Rhythm Society, and the European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society.
