Dr. Michael Lang graduated from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2002. He then entered the combined internal medicine/psychiatry residency at Pitt County Memorial Hospital from 2002-07. From there he accepted a joint appointment in medicine and psychiatry at ECU. He has served as a primary provider as well as a primary psychiatrist for the uninsured and chronically mentally ill in Eastern North Carolina. In 2015 he became the training director for the combined medicine/psychiatry residency. Clinical interests include functional neurological disorders, integrated primary care/psychiatry, resident education, and HIV/psychiatry. Dr. Lang has lectured regionally and nationally in primary care psychiatry as well as using psychiatric medications for chronic pain management. He has been an active member of the North Carolina Psychiatric Association, American College of Physicians, and the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry where he currently serves on the leadership council. At present Dr, Lang is the section head for Vidant’s ECT and TMS services and in April 2019 he became the vice-chair for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at ECU and Chief of Service for Psychiatry at Vidant Medical Center. Dr. Lang is currently in his second year as adjunct faculty for the TNT PCP Fellowship.
