Mike continued his studies under the supervision of Professor Leznoff as a graduate student studying the optical properties of diamagnetic coordination polymers.

In 2009, Mike became Dr. Katz As a result of his research, Mike was awarded the CIC’s Inorganic Division Award for Graduate Research and the CCUCC Chemistry Doctoral Award. After graduating, he was awarded an NSERC post-doctoral fellowship which he chose to hold in the lab of Professor Joseph Hupp at Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois (Go Hawks!).
