Dr. Michael Kattah is a gastroenterologist who cares for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and other disorders involving the digestive tract. He performs upper endoscopies and colonoscopies. He is particularly interested in caring for young adults with IBD and works with pediatric gastroenterologists to help these patients transition from pediatric to adult care.
Kattah's research focuses on ways to better treat patients with IBD. He studies both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (types of IBD) to investigate why people develop IBD and learn how to choose the best medications for individual patients. His lab uses new technologies to understand how specific genes and cell types drive IBD, with the goal of identifying less toxic, more tailored treatments.
Kattah earned his medical degree and doctorate in immunology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at UCSF.
