Dr. Michael A. Borger, MD, is the director of the Cardiovascular Institute as well as the director of the aortic surgical program at NewYork-Presbyterian/ Columbia University Medical Center. Additionally, Dr. Borger is an assistant professor in surgery at CUMC. Dr. Borger is board certified in surgery with expertise in complex aortic surgery including aortic root, arch replacement, and heart valve replacement and repair. Dr. Borger specializes in both surgical and interventional heart valve procedures.

Dr. Borger is an internationally recognized cardiothoracic surgeon who was most recently honored with the Dr. Subhash C. Verma Award, Heart & Stroke by the Richard Lewar Centre of Excellence. Dr. Borger attended medical school at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB, received his Ph.D. with a focus on cerebral protection during cardiac surgery, at the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, and did his fellowship program in cardiac surgery at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON.
