Maureen Connor RN, MPH

Maureen Connor, RN, MPH, is the Executive Director of Quality and Safety, Patient Care Services at North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) in Salem, MA, a member of Partners HealthCare. She is the former Vice President for Quality Improvement and Risk Management at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Director of Quality Improvement at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center, Boston, MA. Maureen is a graduate of Boston City Hospital School of Nursing and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Boston College. She holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Massachusetts. Maureen has extensive experience in the areas of quality and patient safety, risk management, infection control and patient- and family-centered care.

Maureen played a major role in integrating patient safety into the culture of DFCI, collaborating with patients and family members from DFCI's patient and family advisory councils. She is a faculty member of the Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care and of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Patient Safety Executive Development Program. She worked with the MA Coalition for the Prevention of Medical Errors to assist healthcare organizations throughout the Commonwealth in implementing state-mandated patient and family advisory councils.

Maureen was a co-author of the publication When Things Go Wrong: Responding to Adverse Events, a consensus statement of the Harvard affiliated hospitals on communicating with patients about errors and adverse events. Hospitals within the Harvard system used this document as a basis for policy development.

Maureen was a co-investigator of a study that measured the impact of patients' participation in Patient Safety Rounds in the ambulatory clinics at DFCI, and also of a study on oral chemotherapy safety in ambulatory oncology. She has presented nationally on patient and family member involvement in quality and patient safety.
