Matthew N. Vogt MD

Matthew N. Vogt, M.D., is a board-certified anesthesiologist and Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He specializes in liver transplant anesthesia and perioperative medicine, providing expert anesthetic care for patients undergoing complex abdominal and transplant surgeries. His clinical interests include liver transplant anesthesia and resident education, with a strong commitment to advancing patient safety and excellence in graduate medical education.

Dr. Vogt earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin–Madison before receiving his Doctor of Medicine from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed a preliminary internship in internal medicine at Mercy Medical Center/University of Maryland and went on to complete his residency in Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education. He is board-certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Vogt is actively involved in resident education, curriculum development, and departmental leadership. He serves on numerous committees within the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, including the Clinical Practice Committee, Curriculum Committee, Resident Education Committee, Research Committee, and Clinical Practice Executive Committee. He also contributes to the American Society of Anesthesiologists as a question writer for the Summaries of Emerging Evidence (SEE) program. His dedication to teaching and clinical excellence has been recognized with honors including the Mayo Clinic Physician Educator Award, Distinguished Clinician Awards, and Distinguished Resident Clinician Award.

Dr. Vogt is an accomplished clinician-scientist whose research focuses on liver transplantation, perioperative monitoring, patient safety, anesthesia outcomes, and gastrointestinal endoscopy sedation. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and continues to contribute to advances in perioperative medicine through clinical research, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration. His work reflects a commitment to improving outcomes for patients undergoing complex surgical procedures while mentoring the next generation of anesthesiologists.
