Dr. Matthew Hanasono is a Professor and Reconstructive Microsurgery Fellowship Program Director in the Department of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology Summa cum Laude at the Unjiversity of California, Los Angeles and his medical degree from Stanford University.

Dr. Hanasono then completed a residency in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Stanford University and a residency in Plastic Surgery at Cornell University, followed by a fellowship in Reconstructive Microsurgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Since 2005, he has been on faculty at MD Anderson Cancer Center where he performs reconstructive surgery for patients with cancer, specializing in microvascular free flap reconstruction.

Dr. Hanasono's research interests include improving outcomes in reconstructive surgery for patients with cancers of the head and neck, breast and extremities. Dr. Hanasono has lectured nationally and internationally on a broad range of topics related to plastic and reconstructive surgery and has published more than 80 articles and 30 book chapters. In 2014, he was awarded the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery Godina Traveling Fellowship.
