Matthew Jay Ellis MD

Dr. Matthew Jay Ellis, MD was a medical director of the kidney and pancreas transplant programs at Duke Health, and Ellis take care of patients undergoing kidney transplants. What led me to medicine was a passion for taking care of patients. A kidney transplant requires a very complex team, and Ellis enjoys the collaboration among providers and the challenge of helping the team operate more efficiently. Ellis loves seeing patients and developing relationships with them. Ellis always tries to be very open and candid about the process and plan for care. When Ellis evaluates patients, Ellis always tries to view them as a whole person to make sure that transplant is the right choice for them. Ellis grew up in New Mexico but has lived in North Carolina for over two decades. Ellis now considers me a native North Carolinian and a die-hard Duke fan.
