Matthew Benjamin Shaw MABM, BCh, MRCS, MD

Matthew Shaw trained at Oxford University, completing his medical training while also gaining an MA in Physiological Sciences. After completing his basic surgical training in the United Kingdom he studied for and was awarded an MD at the University of Indiana, Indianapolis (USA), and the University of Leicester. His research degree was focused on the development of the bladder subject to outlet obstruction. Mr. Shaw’s research is published and has been presented widely in the national and international literature.

Mr. Shaw moved to the North East in 2003 and currently practices at the Freeman Hospital and also in Northumberland including Ashington, Alnwick, and Berwick. He has a particular interest in the management of complex kidney stones and also surgery for non-cancerous prostate problems.

Mr. Shaw developed holmium laser surgery on the prostate gland in the North East and was the first surgeon to perform this operation in Newcastle.
