Martina M. Cartwright, PhD, RDN is the Vice President of Medical Affairs at NOVAN. Dr. Cartwright has been in the US Medical Affairs industry for 22 years, honing her experience as a leader and expert in building successful and strategically driven medical platforms in preparation for drug and device launches. Martina's expertise includes US regulatory compliance training and execution to foster compliant and scientifically accurate medical, commercial, and promotional materials. She has developed numerous cross-functional comprehensive SOPs and built several medical and regulatory teams from the ground up. Her key therapeutic areas are dermatology, oncology, infectious diseases, and metabolic disorders.
In addition, she is President and CEO of Beacon Science Inc., a biotechnology consulting firm. Dr. Cartwright has more than 21 years of experience in directing medical and regulatory affairs activities including medical education, field medical oversight, and clinical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology research. Her experience lends to the objective interpretation of medical data and patient care. Martina has over a dozen years of experience in drug discovery, drug/device development, and pharmaceutical in/out-licensing, assisting both large pharma and startups in building viable portfolios. She is an expert in regulatory matters and clinical trial design and implementation. Areas of therapeutic interest and experience include infectious diseases, oncology, dermatology, and metabolic disorders.
As one of the nation's leading nutritional scientists, Martina's nutrition education platform focuses on the scientific aspects of a variety of disease states including severe sepsis/shock pathophysiology, ICU-acquired weakness, lipid disorders, hospital malnutrition, critical illness metabolism, and inflammation/immunity.
Dr. Cartwright is a well-known national speaker and is frequently invited to be the keynote speaker at medical conferences, consumer events, and university venues. She is an accomplished author of peer-reviewed medical research, books, and consumer blogs. Dr. Cartwright is the author of "Food for Thought" on Psychology Today Online.
Dr. Cartwright is an adjunct professor of nutritional science at The University of Arizona and a faculty consultant to the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship. She strives to serve as a bridge between bench to bedside and academia and industry.
