Markus Ralser, is a Group Leader at the Francis Crick Institute as well as is affiliated with Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge. Born in Italy, he studied Genetics and Molecular Biology In Salzburg (Austria), and completed a PhD in Neurodegenerative disorders at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin (Germany). After being trained in mass spectrometry at VU Amsterdam (The Netherlands), he started a Junior group at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in 2007, that moved to the University of Cambridge in 2011.

He became part of the MRC-NIMR and the Francis Crick Institute in 2013. The topic of the Ralser lab is the elucidation of metabolic network functionality at the genomic scale. The Ralser lab operates several mass spectrometers that enable the recording of thousands of metabolomes, proteomes and ionomes, and that are combined by using methods of artificial intelligence.
