Dr. Mark Spitzer is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine and Medical Director of The Center for Colposcopy in Lake Success, NY. Dr. Spitzer received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his residency at the Affiliated Hospitals of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at three different hospitals in New York City over a 15 year period. He was President of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) from 2006-2008 and a recipient of their Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award in 2008.

Dr. Spitzer has authored over 100 scientific publications including peer-reviewed articles, scientific reviews, book chapters, and abstracts. He co-edited Colposcopy Principle and Practice: An Integrated Textbook and Atlas (now in its second edition) and co-authored a Colposcopy Image Library CD-ROM. He is an author of the 2006 ASCCP guidelines for the Management of Abnormal Pap Tests and Cervical Disease and is also an author of the 2012 American Cancer Society Guidelines for Cervical Cancer Screening. These served as the United States' national guidelines for cervical cancer screening and the management of abnormal Pap tests.

He also authored publications for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) on human papillomavirus (HPV) (2005 and 2006), cervical neoplasia (2008), and on the management of abnormal Pap tests and cervical disease (2006 and 2008) and wrote ACOG’s Committee Opinion on Vulvodynia (2006). He is served as Senior Associate Editor for the Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease (2010-2017).

Dr. Spitzer prides himself as an educator of both physicians and patients. He was Director of Residency Training at four different hospitals in the New York metropolitan area over a 20 year period where he trained a generation of young obstetricians and gynecologists. He has given countless lectures nationally and internationally and was the Course Director for ACOG’s Update on Cervical Disease course (2008-2015). He brings his love of education to his practice of medicine and routinely spends time explaining to the patients in easy-to-understand terms the nature of their complicated conditions and how to treat them.
