Marco Aurelio De Alvim Costa MD, PhD, MBA

Dr. Costa possesses an unparalleled background in healthcare with more than 20 years of experience. A world-renowned interventional cardiologist and scientist with strong business acumen, he envisions, plans and executes across the entire breadth of the medical enterprise from research to technology development to management of large healthcare systems to global health. Dr. Costa maintains a prominent clinical practice while serving as the President of University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, and Chief Innovation Officer at University Hospitals.

Dr. Costa is internationally recognized for his pioneering work in cardiovascular therapies, medical devices and imaging. He is a Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University with more than 200 scientific publications, 4 books, multiple patents and over 200 invited lectures worldwide. Dr. Costa is passionately engaged in community service and promoting global health. He led the development of cardiovascular care capabilities in Uganda, creating a national program to eradicate rheumatic heart disease. He performed the first coronary, peripheral and valve interventions in Uganda, and is spearheading a 3-way telemedicine partnership between United States, Uganda and Brazilian institutions.
