Marcin Chwistek MD

Marcin Chwistek is a physician, researcher, and leader in supportive oncology and palliative care at Fox Chase Cancer Center, where he serves as Director of the Supportive Oncology and Palliative Care Program and a Professor in the Department of Hematology/Oncology. He is widely recognized for his clinical expertise in cancer pain and symptom management, as well as his contributions to improving the quality of life for patients with serious illness.

Dr. Chwistek’s work focuses on interdisciplinary palliative care that eases physical and emotional suffering and supports patients and families in making healthcare decisions aligned with their values, needs, and preferences. Under his leadership, the supportive oncology and palliative care program has grown, including the expansion of fellowship training and clinical research.

He is actively involved in research related to cancer pain management, survivorship, and patient-physician communication, and he contributes to national guideline development and scholarly literature in the field. In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr. Chwistek is Associate Editor for the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management and serves on the Adult Cancer Pain Panel for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).

Dr. Chwistek completed his medical degree at Jagiellonian University Medical College in Kraków, Poland, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine at Yale University-Bridgeport Hospital and fellowships in pain and palliative care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and integrative medicine at the University of Arizona. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Pain Management.
