Dr. Lorin Scher completed his general psychiatry residency training at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Cornell). During this time, he completed a fellowship at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. Dr. Scher also completed the Psychosomatic Medicine (PSM) Fellowship at UC Davis before joining the faculty. He is board certified in general psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine.

Dr. Scher supervises medical students, residents, fellows and allied-health professionals in a variety of settings within UC Davis Health System, including the psychosomatic medicine service, emergency psychiatry service, UC Davis Primary Care Network (PCN), chronic disease management and education, and the Huntington’s Disease Center of Excellence (UC Davis Department of Neurology). Within the School of Medicine, Dr. Scher chairs the fourth year oversight committee.

Within student education in the psychiatry department, Dr. Scher leads recruitment efforts and directs the fourth year psychiatry curriculum (including acting internships and electives). Dr. Scher is the principal investigator on a telepsychiatry innovation grant within the UC Davis Primary Care Network, and also a co-investigator in a Huntington’s disease stem cell trial funded by the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM).
