OVERVIEW
Essentials of Primary Care Psychiatry is organized by UC Davis Health System and California Psychiatric Association (CPA). This medical conference would be held during Jan 15 - 16, 2016 at Hilton Sacramento Arden West - Sacramento, CA. The target audience for this medical event basically for primarycare physicians and allied health professionals interested in mental health. This two - day conference for primary care physicians and other mental health professionals will integrate recent scientific data with current clinical practice regarding Mood and Anxiety Dis-orders, Substance Misuse, Personality Disorders, Collaborative Care, Pain Psychiatric Management and How to do a Primary Care Psychiatric Interview. This CME conference has been approved with 11 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Objectives:
- Describe the common symptoms/signs that overlap between medical and psychiatric illness
- Use appropriate history-taking and diagnostic studies to differenti-ate medical from psychiatric illness
- Provide evidence-based treatment for common co-morbid psy-chiatric illness within a medically ill patient
- Engage mental health colleagues in collaborative care within existing models of health care delivery
- Develop/adapt new models of care to integrate mental health care into primary care settings
- Recognize substance misuse and appropriate use of narcotic medications
- Identify evidence-based treatment for substance misuse disorders
- Effectively screen for anxiety in a primary care setting
- Recognize warning signs of bipolar illness in a primary care setting
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with personality disordered patients
- Describe indications for treatment with antipsychotic agents in the primary care setting
