Leon Flicker is the inaugural Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Western Australia since 1998. He established a research unit aimed at translational issues focusing on the health needs of older people, the Western Australian Centre for Health and Ageing. He has a particular interest in the risk factors, assessment, and management of the common problems of older people as well as to why some older people achieve healthy aging. He has published over 390 peer-reviewed articles. In 2017 he was honored with an Order of Australia for his contributions to geriatric medicine and dementia prevention and care.
