Assoc Prof Leo Donnan is a Paediatric and Adult Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in limb reconstruction and lengthening, joint replacement, hip disorders, adolescent sports injuries, trauma reconstruction and foot and ankle surgery. He graduated from The University of Melbourne in 1986 and trained in Orthopaedic Surgery in Melbourne obtaining his Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1994.
His international experience was gained at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital in the United Kingdom, key European centres and the Russian Scientific Institute in Kurgan, Siberia, Russia. He was the Chief of Surgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital between 2006 and 2013 and the Director of Orthopaedics until 2014 as well as being an Associate Professor, Department of Paediatrics – University of Melbourne. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Murdoch Children’s Research Centre.
Leo’s research is focussed on Medical Education, e-Learning, Orthopaedic Outcomes and Limb Lengthening and Deformity Correction. He has driven the development of a number of major health initiatives that include developmental dysplasia of the hip and paediatric orthopaedic physiotherapy both of which where awarded Victorian Health Care Awards.
