Leigh Perreault is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology striving to transform our current clinical approaches to weight management and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Perreault’s overarching research interest lies in understanding the early events that lead to obesity, prediabetes, and type 2 diabetes in order to identify novel strategies to restore normal body weight and normoglycemia. To this end, she works as a co-investigator on the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS) and collaborates with other NIH-funded investigators, as well as with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Dr. Perreault graduated from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus where she has remained on faculty for the past 17 years.

Her curriculum vitae outlines a robust record of publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals. Translation of research for the education of patients and healthcare providers is one of Dr. Perreault’s top priorities and is readily evidenced by her dedicated patient care, authoring of the obesity section of UpToDate and speaking engagements across the globe.
