Dr. Konstantinos Katsanos is a Consultant Vascular & Interventional Radiologist at Patras University. He qualified as a Medical Doctor and practicing Interventional Radiologist. He was among the first who sat for and received the European Boards in Interventional Radiology (EBIR) in late 2010 from the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE). His post-graduate studies include an MSc degree in Pharmacology and Pharmacokinetics in 2006 and a Ph.D. thesis in 2009 in the field of therapeutic angiogenesis.
His clinical expertise includes basic IR procedures (biopsies and drainages), all types of central venous access (tunneled lines, ports), upper and lower gastrointestinal stenting, peripheral angioplasty procedures (visceral, infrainguinal and infrapopliteal), arteriovenous shunts procedures (fistula and graft interventions), venous interventions (IVC filter insertion and removal, varicocele embolization, thrombectomy-thrombolysis, angioplasty and stenting), tracheobronchial stenting, uterine fibroid embolization, tumor ablation and drug-eluting bead chemoembolization (radiofrequency and microwave technologies), thoracic and abdominal aortic stent-grafts, pain management in benign (transforaminal epidural steroid injections, medial nerve ablation for facet joint syndrome, percutaneous discectomy, vertebroplasty) and malignant disease (osteoplasty and splanchnic neurolysis), and pediatric interventions (venous access and gastrojejunostomy).
His current academic interests are focused on endovascular therapies for lower limb ischemia and failing dialysis access, as well as on interventional spine procedures and oncological ablative therapies. He has already demonstrated a record of successful basic and applied research having authored or co-authored more than 125 original papers in international peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he has presented numerous oral free papers and scientific presentations and has delivered several invited lectures at international conferences and symposia.
