Kimberly S. Kirkwood BA, MD

Dr. Kimberly Kirkwood specializes in the treatment of pancreatic cancer as well as tumors of the stomach, spleen, gallbladder, bile duct and gastrointestinal tract. A skillful laparoscopic surgeon, she is an expert in applying minimally invasive techniques to treat abdominal tumors and has a particular interest in improving outcomes for patients after pancreas surgery.
Kirkwood earned a medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania and completed a surgical residency and a fellowship in advanced general surgery with a focus on pancreatic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. She also completed a three-year surgical research fellowship at UCLA in hepatobiliary disease. Kirkwood is active in many national societies including the Pancreas Club, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Association for Academic Surgeons and Society of University Surgeons. Her research focuses on understanding the development of pancreatic cancer at a cellular level. She is a professor of surgery at UCSF.
