Dr. Khalid Sheikh is the Director of the Health First Institute for Cardiovascular Wellness and Disease Prevention in Cocoa Beach, Florida. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and advanced lipid management. His academic appointments are as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at Duke University Global Health Institute, and as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Central Florida.

His clinical and research interests pertain to global heart health, primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention, cardiovascular imaging, and longevity. Dr. Sheikh earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Florida. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado and earned his MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology. He completed his Fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at Duke University and was a member of the faculty in the Division of Cardiology until 1991. He returned to the Duke community with a faculty appointment at the Hubert-Yeargan Center (HYC) for Global Health in 2016.

As part of the HYC, Dr. Sheikh has served as a research mentor and onsite supervisor for trainees at AMPATH in Eldoret, Kenya. He has made several trips to Eldoret, serving as an attending physician in the CCU for the initial group of trainees in the Moi-Duke Cardiovascular Fellowship program.  He has provided didactic lectures for the Moi-Duke Cardiovascular Fellowship program and has been a great partner in fostering strategic and capacity development efforts with the HYC’s Kenyan partners.
