Dr. Haviland has been a clinical nurse practitioner for eleven years and has worked with the Supportive Care Medicine Service and for the past three years. Prior to Supportive Care, she worked with the Pulmonary Medicine Service and began her career in the Surgical Advanced Care Unit (SACU) at MSK nine years ago. While working in the SACU, she initiated a retrospective review of all chronically critically ill patients resulting in a publication assisting in mortality prognostication. She is the current Chair of the Professional Development Council (PDC) and Co-chair of the LGBTQ Clinical Advisory Council (CAC). As Chair of the PDC, she has led the council to create The MSK ASCEND Program due to launch in 2021, the Advance Practice Provider Career Excellence and Development Program. As Co-chair of the LGBTQ CAC, she has initiated a consultation service for LGBTQ persons at MSK.

She has also participated in the establishment of an LGBTQ-specific communication skills training module for nurses. She is a member of the Ethics Committee, the Nursing IRB Review Protocol Committee, the Global Healthcare Disparities Council, and a Comskil facilitator at MSK. Kelly earned her Ph.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in November 2019. During her tenure at MUSC, she received the Ruth Chamberlin Scholarship Award for the programs’ top application to entry, served as the elected Ph.D. Student Representative for two years, and was a member of the MUSC’s Honor Council. Kelly has presented her work both nationally and internationally and has a variety of publications.
