Dr. Ruskin was born in Miami Beach, Florida. He received a degree in Biology and Biotechnology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MD degree from the University of Miami. Dr. Ruskin received his training in anesthesiology at NYU Medical Center and remained there as a faculty member for three years. He then moved to Yale University School of Medicine, where he is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Neurosurgery.

Dr. Ruskin is currently President of the Connecticut State Society of Anesthesiologists, Vice-Chair of the Anesthesia Quality Institute, and an Associate Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association. Dr. Ruskin’s primary academic interests are neurosurgical anesthesiology, medical informatics, and human performance. He has published numerous articles on information technology and neurosurgical anesthesia and co-authored the first textbook on anesthesia informatics. He is recognized as an expert on safety in the operating room and has published a book and on anesthesia emergencies. His most recent publication proposes a technique, adopted from aviation, to enhance medical decision making.
