Katharine Colton MD

Dr. Katharine Rose Colton, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Duke University with joint academic appointments in Emergency Medicine and Neurosurgery. She specializes in neurocritical care, where she combines clinical expertise with research to improve outcomes for patients with severe neurological injuries.

Dr. Colton earned her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Duke University School of Medicine in 2015. She completed a residency in Emergency Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Neurocritical Care at Northwestern University, training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

In her clinical role, Dr. Colton focuses on critically ill patients with neurologic injuries and disorders, particularly traumatic brain injury (TBI). Her research efforts are dedicated to advancing evidence-based care for TBI through clinical trials and pragmatic studies that aim to refine treatment strategies and improve patient outcomes. She serves as principal investigator or co-investigator on several notable grants involving adaptive platform trials and multicenter studies in acute neurologic care.

Dr. Colton’s scholarly work includes publications on TBI management, neuro-ICU practices, and critical care neurology. She balances her academic responsibilities with patient care and mentorship, contributing to both the scientific community and the training of future clinicians.
