Karen has over 32 years of nursing experience in cardiovascular and critical care nursing. In addition to practice at the bedside, she has held positions in the nursing management and cardiovascular program administration. She has expertise in post-cardiac arrest care and specialized knowledge in heart failure management through her work in a Special Care heart failure clinic.

In addition to her clinical practice, Karen is also a partner in two businesses: Key Choice Consulting and Cardiovascular Nursing Education Associates. She is also a legal nurse consultant. Karen has co-authored the book Cardiovascular Nursing Practice: A Comprehensive Resource Manual and Study Guide for Clinical Nurses, published by CNEA in 2014 (2nd edition). In 2014 Karen was selected by the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) as the CNS of the year.

Karen received her Nursing Diploma from Akron City Hospital School of Nursing, in Akron, Ohio, her BSN from Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio, and both her MSN as an acute care CNS and her Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.
