Dr. Jurgen Floege, MD, Ph.D., FERA is a Head of the Division of Nephrology and Immunology at the University of Aachen. Jurgen Floege was born in 1959, graduated from the Hannover Medical School in Germany in 1984, and subsequently received his clinical training at the Hannover Medical School. His particular interest in renal diseases and renal replacement therapies developed during various research periods in physiology, pharmacology, nephrology, and pathology at the Hannover Medical School, Germany, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, and the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. He was appointed as head of the Division of Nephrology and Immunology at the University of Aachen, Germany in 1999. Since 2001 he is also Vice Dean of the Medical School and since 2004 director of a government-funded center grant on chronic inflammation. 

Professor Floege is an active member of several nephrology societies including the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), and the European Renal Association (ERA-EDTA). He is a current member of the ISN council’s executive committee, the ERA-EDTA scientific advisory board, and a former ERA-EDTA council member. He was president of the European Kidney Research Association (now merged with ERAEDTA) until June 2005. In addition, he is a founding member and vice president of the German Society of Nephrology since 2008. Together with Professors Richard Johnson and John Feehally, he is the editor of the best-selling textbook “Comprehensive Clinical Nephrology”. Finally, Professor Floege is one of two deputy editors of the ERA-EDTA journal Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation and a member of the editorial board of several other journals, including the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Kidney International, Nature Clinical Practise Nephrology, the Journal of Nephrology and Clinical Nephrology.
