Judith L. Steinberg is Deputy Chief Medical Officer for UMass Medical School's Commonwealth Medicine division and also serves as Senior Director of Clinical Affairs for the Center for Health Policy and Research. In these roles, she provides oversight to all of Commonwealth Medicine's clinically focused services and programs and focuses on enterprise-wide quality improvement. She also helps to develop linkages with academic departments of the Medical School to foster collaborative initiatives.

Dr. Steinberg leads the UMass Medical School team that is supporting the implementation of the statewide, multi-payer Patient-Centered Medical Home Initiative in Massachusetts. She is a Clinical Associate Professor in UMass Medical School's Department of Medicine and Department of Family Medicine & Community Health.

Before joining Commonwealth Medicine in 2008, Dr. Steinberg served as the Medical Director of Neponset Health Center in Boston. Prior to that, she was the HIV Program Director at East Boston Neighborhood Health Center. She was an attending physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Boston Medical Center, as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine. She continues to practice medicine at Neponset Health Center and at UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Dr. Steinberg is a member of the National Association of Community Health Centers, serving as Vice-Chair of its Clinical Practice and Program Committee and as a member of its HIV and Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Committee. She serves on several committees and boards in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, focusing on quality improvement, primary care service delivery, payment reform, public health, and global health.
