Judit Gordon-Cappitelli, MD, is a board-certified nephrologist and internal medicine specialist who sees patients with a wide range of kidney and hypertension conditions. She is an assistant professor of medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center and a member of the American Society of Nephrology. Dr. Gordon-Cappitelli sees the kidney as a selfless organ that connects and serves the entire body. In order to effectively treat kidney problems, she gets to know the whole person, understanding the patient completely in order to unravel the conditions affecting the kidneys. She makes sure her patients understand their treatment options and are involved in their care plans, and she maintains communication with referring physicians as well.

Dr. Gordon-Cappitelli finds nephrology a fascinating area of specialty due to the complexity of diseases. At the same time, the treatments she can offer her patients make a great impact on their health and quality of life. She works with patients to prevent dialysis, but also helps patients with advanced kidney disease maintain a more normal life through the use of home dialysis.

Her special clinical interests include treating hypertension and kidney disease in pregnancy for conditions such as preeclampsia. She also sees patients with glomerulonephritis, also called nephrotic syndrome, a group of diseases that require an understanding of the disease process throughout the body to treat effectively. Currently, Dr. Gordon-Cappitelli is involved in a research program to learn more about the dynamics and physiology between blood, hypertension and kidney disease. She enjoys living and working in Washington, D.C., especially the multi-cultural environment that offers the chance to interact with people from all over the world.
