Dr. Joseph Loscalzo is chair of the Department of Medicine and physician-in-chief at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). A cardiovascular medicine specialist, he is also the Hersey Professor of the Theory and Practice of Medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS).

He received his medical degree from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed an internal medicine residency and a cardiovascular disease fellowship at BWH. He is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Loscalzo’s clinical and research interests include vascular biology, thrombosis, atherosclerosis and systems biology. His most recent work has established the field of network medicine, a discipline that seeks to redefine disease and therapeutics from an integrated perspective using systems biology and network science. He has received research support from the National Institutes of Health, authored over 500 peer-reviewed articles and holds 31 patents for his work in the field of nitric oxide and redox biology.
