Josea Rono BPharm, PhD

Dr. Rono is an entrepreneur and a recognized thought leader in healthcare business, health financing, global health & international development. He has advised on healthcare transactions (mergers and acquisitions) worth over US$ 20 Billion, developed strategies for healthcare businesses worth over US$100 Million and advised several healthcare programs in Africa & Europe.

Dr. Rono is the Co-founder & Managing Partner at E&K Consulting Firm, an advisory and investment firm providing turnkey solutions in the healthcare, finance and technology sectors in Africa. Dr. Rono has led advisory and investment assignments at: The World Bank Group; GAVI; United Nations; Business Call to Action (BctA); International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI); PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC); McKinsey & Company; Novartis Pharma; Equity Bank / Group Foundation; Abt Associates; Population Services – Kenya; and the Ministries of Health of over 8 African Governments.

Dr. Rono’s work has attracted several awards and grants. He is a Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Silver Medalist and has competitively won: a Wellcome Trust PhD Scholarship; a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation award; two Karolinska Institute Research Awards and four Sullivan Scholarships. He is well published internationally and is a regular speaker at international conferences – most recently at the Africa Health Business Symposium (AHBS 2016) in Kenya; the Bill & Melinda Gates funded Keystone Symposium in the USA; and the Middle East And Africa Business Summit (MEA2017) in Stockholm.

Dr. Rono earned his Ph.D. from Karolinska Institute in Sweden and his Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Nairobi where he was a Scholar of the Year. He is an alumnus of the Leadership & Management in Health Program of the University of Washington, USA. Dr. Rono holds an Adjunct Faculty Position at Strathmore Business School, is a fellow of the Swedish Institute Management Program (SIMP) and holds several board appointments.
