Dr. Jose Alfredo Morfin received his medical degree from UCLA in 2001 and subsequently completed an Internal Medicine‐Primary Care Residency at UCSF in 2004. After residency, he returned to UC Davis and the Sacramento Valley to complete a fellowship in Nephrology in 2006 where he transitioned to a Faculty position.
Dr. José Morfín currently holds a Clinical Professor appointment in the Department of Medicine at UC Davis School of Medicine. He has a strong interest in community outreach to underserved populations to improve healthcare delivery specifically in the areas of chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and diabetes. In addition, he is a promoter of patient self‐care and empowerment which he believes is an effective means to improve clinical outcomes.
In this regard, as an advisor, he works closely with patient advocacy groups in the Sacramento Area and the National Kidney Foundation for the dissemination of kidney disease education for the public at large. He is the Medical Director of Home Dialysis Services at DCI in Sacramento, California and under his leadership, he was successfully able to launch a Home Hemodialysis program in 2009 which has maintained sustained growth.
Dr. José Morfín follows appropriately 100 patients on hemodialysis of which over 40% are on home therapy. He has collaborated with multiple home hemodialysis care organizations in the region to achieve high-quality outcomes. He is passionate about therapy and thus has been frequently invited to speak and share his knowledge of home hemodialysis at national meetings.
