Jong-yil Chai MD, PhD

Dr. Jong-Yil Chai received his M.D. degree in 1976 from Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea, and his Ph.D. (Medical Parasitology) in 1984 from the same university. He has been working in the Department of Parasitology, Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul 110-799, Korea, since 1976. He is now a Professor of the Department and served as the Chairperson for 12 years. 

For abroad studies, he worked on mucosal immunity to protozoan parasites, from 1986 to 1987, at the Animal Parasitology Institute, US Department of Agriculture, Beltsville, Maryland, as a Visiting Scientist. He also studied immunity to intestinal parasites, in 1993, in the Department of Parasitology, Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo, Japan, as a Visiting Professor. 

He published over 400 peer-reviewed academic papers in the field of parasitology, authored a textbook on clinical parasitology, and contributed many chapters of textbooks on Parasitology and clinical medicine. His research area includes a wide range of parasites infecting humans including protozoa and helminths, but the most interesting are researches on intestinal nematodes and trematodes. He is currently serving as the Editor of The Korean Journal of Parasitology.
