Jonathan Seth Appelbaum, MD, FACP, AAHIVS, is an internist, geriatrician, and an HIV expert. He is active regionally and nationally with the American Academy HIV Medicine, where is on the national board of directors and serves as vice-chair. He has served on the national steering committee for the Group on Diversity and Inclusion of the Association of American Medical Colleges. He serves on the board of directors of Health HIV, a national organization supporting advocacy, education, capacity building, and research for individuals, organizations, and communities. He has spoken on or been a member of panels on topics such as health issues in the older LGBT patient, HIV and Aging, and LGBT curriculum in undergraduate medical education. He served as the co-principle investigator for the HIV and Aging Consensus Project and is the co-medical editor for the HIV-Age.org site. Locally, he serves on the board of directors of Big Bend Cares. He currently holds the Laurie L Dozier, Jr, MD Education Director, and Professor of Internal Medicine at Florida State University College of Medicine (FSUCOM), where he also serves as Chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences. He is on the faculty of the FSU-Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Appelbaum earned his MD at the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Prior to relocating to Florida, he held positions at Fenway Community Health and at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. His interests focus on LGBT health disparities and aging and HIV.
