John T. Berger, III, MD, is the Acting Chief of the Division of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Berger joined the faculty at Children's National in 1996, and served as the Medical Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since its opening in 2005. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his training in Pediatrics at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland, Oregon. He completed fellowships in Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Children’s National. Dr. Berger specializes in treating advanced heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and congenital heart disease. He is a co-investigator in the Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network funded by National Institutes of Child Health and Development.
