Dr. John Luo, M.D., joined the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine in March 2015 as a clinical professor of psychiatry and director of the psychiatric residency training program. In addition to his academic duties, Luo is a practicing psychiatrist whose emphasis is on psychotherapy and medication management for patients with depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. Previously, Luo was a clinical professor of psychiatry andco-chair of the medical neuroscience block at the UCLA School of Medicine and ambulatory care program associate at the UCLA Semel Institute. He also was senior physician informaticist with the UCLA Health System. He has also worked at UC Davis as director of psychiatric informatics and as assistant professor of clinical psychiatry.

He also served on the Council on Communications for the American Psychiatric Association and is the Gores Informatics Advocacy Chair for the American Association for Technology in Psychiatry. He writes a regular column in Psychiatric News on computer technology in the field of psychiatry.

dr. Luo is a distinguished fellow of the Association for Academic Psychiatry and is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Luo earned his B.S. in biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles, then earned his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas before returning to California to conduct his internship and residency at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
