John Leach is a Consultant Neurosurgeon with sub-specialty interests in spinal surgery and brain tumours I have a particular expertise in neck conditions including neck and arm pain, disc prolapse, cervical fusion and cervical disc replacement.

As a full-time NHS Consultant at Salford Royal, I am sub-specialty lead of the busiest spinal neurosurgery unit in the UK and was clinical lead for neurosurgery in Manchester 2012-2014. I am committed to surgical education through training fellowships and surgeon instructional courses and to clinical research into spinal disorders.

I believe in a multidisciplinary approach to spinal problems. Surgery can often be avoided and, where it is necessary, should be done in the safest and least invasive way possible. The development of navigated spinal surgery and use of intraoperative spinal cord monitoring for spinal decompression surgery are two of the patient safety advances that I have been developing recently in Manchester.
