Dr. John Jay Treanor is a graduate of the University of Rochester Medical School and a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Vermont. He returned to the University of Rochester for a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases and also trained at the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, NIH. Dr. Treanor primarily sees inpatients with general ID problems at UR Medicine and has a small outpatient clinic.

Treanor research interests are primarily focused on control of influenza with vaccines and antivirals and on the safety and immunogenicity of vaccines for emerging infectious diseases. His group currently conducts clinical studies evaluating candidate live attenuated influenza vaccines for prevention of pandemic influenza, and studies to document and evaluate the priming effects of pandemic vaccines on subsequent booster vaccines. As director of the New York Influenza Center of Excellence, he collaborates with colleagues in microbiology and immunology to perform detailed evaluations of the human humoral and cellular immune responses to influenza infection and vaccination. His group is also active in clinical trials to evaluate new vaccines for Norovirus and other viral pathogens in the field and in the human experimental infection model.
