Blebea assumed the role of Professor and Chair of the surgery department on December 1, 2011. Dr. Blebea is a board certified vascular surgeon. He most recently served as Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH; Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program at Case Western Reserve - University Hospitals, also in Cleveland, starting in 2008.
Dr. Blebea began his postgraduate training as a resident in general surgery at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., from 1982-1985, followed by a fellowship as a research resident in vascular surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, 1985-1986. He completed his final two years of general surgery residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark from 1986-1988. A fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester, NY, followed from 1989-1991. In 2001, Dr. Blebea completed a post-graduate fellowship in endovascular surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh, PA. Most recently, he obtained a Masters in Business Administration in the Parker MBA Program of Lake Erie College, Painesville, Ohio. Dr. Blebea is an NIH-funded researcher with an interest in hemodynamics and ultrasound technology. He will be bringing his translational laboratory to OU with continuing work on implantable flow sensor devices.
