Dr. Jimmy Yu wai Chan is a Clinical Associate Professor and an academic head and neck surgeon at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. He graduated from The University of Hong Kong in 1998 and pursued post-graduate training in Head & Neck Surgery in the Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. He subsequently became subspecialized in Head and Neck oncology surgery and obtained the Degree of Master of Surgery (MS) in 2008 and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2015. Dr. Chan is the Honorary Consultant and Chief of the Division of Head & Neck Surgery and the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. His clinical and research work is on nasopharyngeal carcinoma, ranging from endoscopic, robotic, and open salvage for recurrent tumors, to translational research on biomarkers for prognostication and personalization of treatment. Dr. Chan is also interested in the management of carcinoma of the larynx and hypopharynx and the reconstruction for laryngo-pharyngotomy defects using the free jejunal flap. He is an active researcher in clinical trials and translational laboratory work, and has delivered over 100 invited lectures, authored / co-authored 15 book chapters, and published over 120 peer-reviewed journal articles (H-index 22). He is currently on the Executive Management Committee of the Area of Excellence Scheme, Centre for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Research, Hong Kong, as well as the immediate Past President of the Hong Kong Head & Neck Society.
