Jason M. Ridlon joined the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2015 and is an assistant professor with appointments in the Department of Animal Sciences, the Division of Nutritional Sciences and the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology. Dr. Ridlon obtained his Ph.D. in anaerobic bacteriology from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 2008 and remained as a postdoctoral fellow in the Departments of Microbiology & Immunology and Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology until 2012.

Jason Ridlon, Ph.D., is helping find treatment strategies to improve human health and animal well-being. He studies gut microbiology, specifically biochemistry and molecular biology of steroid and bile acid biotransformations by the gut microbiota. He is trying to understand how microbial metabolites promote gastrointestinal tract diseases such as liver and colorectal cancers, as well as essential hypertension.
