Dr. Englund is a Professor in the Section of Infectious Diseases, Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Washington/ Seattle Children’s Hospital, in Seattle, Washington. She earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Dr. Englund has conducted research on approaches in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of respiratory virus infections in neonates, children and immunocompromised adults. Since 2002, she has directed Pediatric Transplant Infectious Diseases at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, a consortium of Seattle Children’s Hospital/Fred Hutch Cancer Center/University of Washington. Dr. Englund has a special interest in vaccine-preventable diseases and viral respiratory diseases in young children, pregnant women, and immunocompromised hosts, including transplant recipients.
She is the principal site investigator for the Seattle site of the New Vaccine Surveillance Network, sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), where rotavirus and influenza vaccine effectiveness is studied and RSV surveillance is conducted. She served on the Antiviral Drugs Advisory Committee of the FDA from 2001-5, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) from 2007-2011, and as the Pediatric ID Society representative at ACIP until 2015. She has served on other national and international committees, including as President of the Peds ID Society, and as a member of the Vaccine and Related Biological Products (VRBPC) at the US FDA, the SAGE Working Group on Influenza Vaccines of WHO, and the Influenza Working Group of the IDSA.
