Jan TackMD, PhD
Tack was a research fellow at the Department of Physiology at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A. with Dr. J. D. Wood from 1989 to 1990 and at the Center for Gastroenterological Research at the University of Leuven with Dr. G. Vantrappen and Dr. J. Janssens since 1990. His research lies in the field of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, and includes diverse topics such as the physiology and the pharmacology of the enteric nervous system, gastrointestinal hormones, intestinal inflammation, and the pathophysiology of functional dyspepsia, of gastro-esophageal reflux disease and of the irritable bowel syndrome. He published more than 90 articles and 20 book chapters on various aspects of scientific and clinical gastroenterology.
In 1995, Prof. Tack won the national G. Brohee prize for Gastroenterological Research, and in 1999 he won the international Janssen Award for Basic and Clinical Research in Gastrointestinal Science, and the national Baron Simonart prize for Clinical Pharmacology. In 2000, Prof. Tack was awarded the Biotherabel AstraZeneca prize for gastroenterological research and the Paternoster-Vantrappen prize for neurogastroenterology. Prof. Tack is associate editor of "Gut" and member of the editorial board of "Gastroenterology" and "Bailliere's Clinical Gastroenterology".
